Common Symptoms of a Suspension Problem
For safe and steady driving, it's of great importance that your suspension is healthy. At the first indication of suspension trouble, you'll want to get to the shop so an inspection can be completed. Here's a look at six signs of suspension trouble.
Fails the Bounce Test
There's an easy test you can do that will help you determine if your shocks/struts are worn out. To start, make sure your vehicle is safely parked. Then, use all of your weight to push down on the front end. Rock it a few times and then let go. Next, head to the back of your vehicle and do exactly the same thing on the rear. After releasing, if the vehicle rocks more than two or three times, then there's reason to suspect that your suspension isn't in good condition.
"Nose Diving"
Worn-out shocks can make it feel as if you're lurching forward at a downward angle when you step on the brakes.
Bumpy Driving
If the road is visibly smooth, but it feels like you're hitting bumps, then there's cause for concern regarding your suspension.
Bald Spots
When shocks/struts fail, then tires can wear down unevenly, which can consequently lead to the formation of bald spots.
Leaking
Your shocks will probably need to be replaced if you can see oil is actually leaking out onto them.
Drifting
Assuming that you're following the speed limit, it shouldn't ever feel like you're drifting or swaying when you take sharp turns. However, if it does feel this way, then there's a good chance that your suspension is not functioning optimally.
